Mount System and Compatibility
The Sigma 50mm is designed for Sony E-mount cameras, offering excellent compatibility with Sony's full-frame and APS-C mirrorless bodies. The Panasonic 35mm uses the L-mount system, compatible with Panasonic, Sigma, and Leica cameras. Your camera system will be the primary deciding factor between these lenses.
Focal Length and Creative Applications
The 50mm focal length is ideal for portraits, offering natural perspective and beautiful subject isolation. It's perfect for headshots and tight compositions. The 35mm provides a wider field of view, excellent for street photography, environmental portraits, and general-purpose shooting where you need to capture more of the scene.
Aperture Performance and Low Light
The Panasonic's f/1.8 maximum aperture provides nearly one full stop advantage over the Sigma's f/2, translating to better low-light performance and shallower depth of field capabilities. However, the Sigma's f/2 is still quite fast and delivers excellent bokeh quality with its 9-blade aperture design.
