Optical Performance and Image Quality
The XF2X TC WR teleconverter effectively doubles the focal length of compatible Fujifilm XF lenses while maintaining impressive optical quality. Despite the 2-stop light loss inherent to 2x teleconverters, the unit delivers sharp images with minimal chromatic aberration when paired with high-quality prime lenses like the 50-140mm f/2.8 or 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6. The 9-element optical design maintains edge-to-edge sharpness reasonably well, though some softness may appear at the corners with certain lens combinations. Color rendition remains accurate and contrast stays strong, making it a viable option for wildlife and sports photography where getting closer isn't possible.

Build Quality and Weather Resistance
Fujifilm has constructed the XF2X TC WR with the same attention to detail as their premium lenses, featuring a robust metal construction that feels substantial without being overly heavy at 290g. The weather sealing lives up to Fujifilm's WR designation, with gaskets protecting against dust and moisture down to -10°C. The mount mechanism is precise and secure, with positive clicks when attaching to both camera and lens. The compact form factor doesn't significantly impact the balance of most lens combinations, though longer telephoto setups may require additional tripod support for extended shooting sessions.
Autofocus Performance and Compatibility
While the teleconverter maintains full communication between lens and camera body, autofocus performance does take a noticeable hit, particularly in lower light conditions due to the 2-stop light reduction. Focus hunting becomes more common, and continuous AF tracking isn't as reliable as without the converter. The unit works exclusively with select Fujifilm XF lenses - primarily the 50-140mm f/2.8, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6, and 70-300mm f/4-5.6. Image stabilization functionality is preserved when using compatible IS lenses, which helps offset the reduced shutter speeds needed to compensate for the light loss.
